Are radios on mp3 players any good?

Was told that radio reception was not very good on mp3 players. Having to decide whether to get mobile phone with radio or mp3 player with radio. Any suggestions please?

It depends on if you ever listen to the radio or not. I rarely listen to the radio on my mp3,so it basically has no use to me. The reception is good on both,but what you heard isn't all true- my mp3 has good reception (Grundig,red) and I can listen to it with no problem. I suggest a mp3,unless you're the type that likes to be in constant contact with friends by chatting. I'm more the musical type,so I got an mp3. Good luck in making your choice! ;)

My 512Mb Creative player is fairly basic, retailing at around 锟?0-锟?0. It plays FM radio perfectly, with no problems on interference, automatically picks up local stations for you as soon as you switch it on, has mp3 shuffle, voice record and data storage, and basically makes the Ipod look like a rip-off.
I own 2 Creative MP3 players and radio isn't great - it's got good sound quality for local stations but doesn't seem to pick up national stations - I don't use it because of this.

But my experience with radios on phones isn't good either - I don't find the reception very good - but they are probably better at picking up national stations.
Never known the need for one..

I recently dropped my sony NW-HD5 (for about the 50th time) and it decided not work this time (I guess it knocked something loose cause i hear a clicking). but anyway it would cost $100 just to see if it could be fixed. The new sony mp3 players are too small in GB for me, which sux cause i love sony.

I've been looking at several new types of mp3 players, but i'm not sure which to get yet. i may be overlooking a good option too so i decided to try yahoo answers.

I definitely need at least 20GB, price isn't really a factor, and any extra options like video playback and such is great too. Oh and i use iTunes a lot, do iPods only work with itunes?

If anyone can assist me on my decision by giving me their opinion or some available options please help :)

I use an iPod Classic which is 80GB and will be perfect for you.

Use www.ciao.co.uk and look at the reviews for it. It's a fantastic player and plays music, video, you can view photos on it. It's good value and is a brilliant player. Plus you can only use iTunes for iPods so as you use it already it's a bonus :)
For the record, iTunes only works with iPods. So if you are looking into getting any other mp3 player, you need to burn those songs to a disc, then rip it back to your computer, to get rid of the DRM. This is only for songs purchased from iTunes, or any other subscription service.

Now, I recommend the Zune 80. It's only $50 more than the Zune 30 (It's $250), and it's worth it. It has a nice big screen, you can wirelessly share songs (which isn't huge; not a lot of people have Zune), wireless sync to your computer, and it comes with a built in FM tuner. And the screen is protected with glass, so it is scratch resistant. And you say you dropped your Sony alot...so the Zune is pretty durable. Right now, accessories are pretty limited, so that is the only downside. And there are bugs with the software, but there are workarounds. I personally think you get more for you money for a Zune rather than an iPod.

Okay, I'm trying to upload songs to my new MP3. My problem is I"m stuck on the part where the instructions say I have to plug in the device and Device Set up Wizard will walk me through the rest. It is not coming up. I checked device manager "My computer" and it shows it is installed. I uninstalled it hoping the device set up wizard would start but it won't so I can't upload my songs. Any ideas????

if your mp3 player was already installed, then maybe it installed automatically. try going forward a step and see if it works. if things don't work you can always just uninstall the mp3 player again. but don't trust me, because i don't want anything bad to happen to your computer or mp3 player

If you can see the mp3 player showing up as a drive under My Computer, then you could probably just copy and paste your mp3s right into your player. That is what I prefer to do.

It depends on your service provider. I believe many of them are filtering MP3 attachments into low quality audio files. T-Mobile does that on my service plan.

I'd go with an mp3 player, it allows for more flexibility with the least problems (at least in my experience). One of the big advantages for me is that an mp3 player will allow you to load music onto another computer and an iPod wont (you can only load it onto the iPod) you will need to use sharepod or a similar program to copy from iPod to computer. The other thing I didn't like about the iPod is it's reliance on iTunes-some people love iTunes, I don't. With the mp3 player you don't rely on one music player to transfer the files.

I own both--a Dell DJ and Ipod Shuffle. Based on my experience, I'd recommend the Ipod--it is the easiest to use, and you won't have any trouble with the software (which cannot be said of most other applications you'd have to use to put the music on the player if you choose to go with mp3, such as MusicMatch).

With Itunes, everything is at your fingertips, and you can burn CDs from your music library for use in your car or home stereo as well.

You can charge it through the outlet AND through the USB port in your computer, too. You cannot transfer songs through itunes, though. You will have to use a software that comes with the Creative Zen Vision:M. It is called the "Zen Vision:M Media Explorer." I prefer this software more than itunes.

How do i fix my Mp3 (Zen V plus)?

One morning, i wake 1 hour early to plug in my Mp3 into the USB cord that connects to my computer and charge and get ready for school. An hour later i unplug it and leave. When going to class i turn it on to listen to it and i get some screen on my mp3 saying "Firmware problem" so theres 4 options on the screen, clean up, format all, reload firmware, and reboot. i do all and nothing works. on Reload Firmware option, i do that and it says update firmware now. so i go online and search for a firmware for my product to update it to. i download the update and run it and it says "your player is not connected, please connect your player". but when i connected the player it still says that. my player IS connected and i can still go to the Media Explorer. its connected. i can drag music into the folder but i get this message "Error copying file or folder: Unspecified Error" so i cant do nothing with the MP3. i've only had it for like a week and it already has an issue. Help! ASAP! Thank you!

What is wrong with my mp3 player?

I just got mine for Christmas and was barely playing with it yesterday and once I figured how it worked, it was great. But when I just added 2-3 songs into it the mp3 player it said it was updating the library but it was taking awhile and I was in a hurry so before I had to leave, I just took the USB port out and I guess from there it messed up?

When I turn the mp3 player on it says it's initializing but it remains on "SANSA 240 1.0GB" and doesn't allow me to use any of it's functions/menu button and won't even turn off, so I'd have to take the battery out to do so. And when I plug it into the computer the mp3 player also goes to "SANSA 240 1.0GB" and my computer doesn't even detect a USB was connected.

I don't have a reciept, don't know where my uncle got it, and whatever it came in had already been thrown out so I was wondering if it's possible to fix it without having to return it/go through all that...

ok heres one thing you could do got to control panel, and then click audio devices, near the bottom it will say portable media devices, click there and it wil troubleshoot and will take you step by step onhow to get it to be detected, once that gets working, you can click the folders that pop up when you plug in your MP3, one might say Audible , if so click it and open up your music folder in the step you can drag and drop from folder to folder, after that you will see a strange symbol on the bottom of your screen that regularly isnt there, click it and if you clicked the right on it will say remove hardware safely, click you device once you find it and the click a button that says remove on the near bottom , and it will assure you that you can remove it with out messing up you MP3 player, when you want to turn off the MP3 player try to hold the off button down for a maximum of 10 seconds, i hope this helped

only way is to keep playing with it untill you get the hang of how it all works.... have you done a search for luckystar website... also, try samsung.. as 90% of all mp3 players are samsung made, and badged up differently....

I am under the impression that a iPod has to have a subscription to itunes to download songs. Songs cannot be downloaded straight from your computer. A regular MP3 will take any song download straight from computers. Am I right?.... Why bother with a iPod then?... Why not simply get MP3 recorder?

You are wrong. You can get any song onto an iPod, but you DO have to have iTunes. There is no subscription, you just create a library for your iPod, and import the songs you want into iTunes, then onto your iPod. It's easier to do it with other MP3 players than it is with an iPod, why iPod though? Advertising and marketing, they did an amazing job. I've heard stories of kids getting MP3 players that were better then iPods, but refused to use them out in public or at school because it wasn't an iPod. It's sad, but true.
Actually an I-POD uses MP3s. You need you use the program itune in order to put songs on the IPOD but it uses mp3 files from your computer. If you have MP3s downloaded they will work ony our IPOD. IPODS are a league apove all other mp3 players.

OMG, get the new walkman. It is fricken awesome. 2gb for 95 bucks, It has a 1.8 inc screen, 33 hours battery life, video, music, and picture playback all in HD, Its fricken sick, I just bought one and I love it. definitely the smasung k5. i chose that player because everyone has an ipod and when i say everyone i mean EVERYONE so i wanted to be different. i got a coby MP-C7085 mp3 player for christmas.

it's able to hold videos, so i downloaded one on limewire, but i don't know how to get it to the mp3 player. i have to use windows media player to get the songs and videos on the mp3 player, so i can't do it through itunes or this would be a breeze. i'm not sure how to put videos from limewire to my windows media player, so i went into setup in the mp3 player and switched it to mpc mode like i read somewhere else. i thought i got the video to the mp3 player, but when i go into the menu and onto movies, it reads No File. this is raelly frustrating me. can anyone help me to get the video on my mp3 player?

Do you mean that it came with a small CD? If so, then you should be able to put it right into your CD drive, just like a normal CD. If you have a drawer style CD drive, there is a smaller section in the center of the CD drawer that should be the size of the CD. You can get mpg music videos, several of them from MTV, using a bittorrent client such as Azureus. Once the client is installed, you can search bittorrent sites for downloads.

I don't know Sansa, but if it plays video, then it must be playing mpg, wmv or some other video format but not mp3. Mp3 is an Mpeg version 1 audio only layer.

If you just want to strip the music off of the video, then use Azureus to download, then use SuperC to strip video. Both programs are easy to use and completely free.

I work at an airport and have to put my bag and jacket through to be screedned each day and am now on my third MP3 player in as many months, 2 have just stopped working altogether and the third has lost all resoloution on the screen within a week of getting it replaced last time. I have it insured but replacing it every few weeks is ridiculous. Is this just me having bad luck or somthing to do with the X-Ray? First 2 were cheap Matsui models the 3rd is a Logik DAX512 with DAB and MP3. It plays ok still and will switch to and from radio but can't do anything else as unable to see the screen, tried reset button but no better. Cheers.

no i wouldnt think so. i mean i have gone on many trips and nothing was wrong after it was scanned. people put their cell phones, cameras, video cameras, game boys, and other stuff too and they are fine. I would just get a better mp3. either and i pod or if you dont like them like me, get a creative mp3. i have a creative zune m and its awesome. it has 30 gigs and it plays movies, pictures and music.

Check out the Samsung YP-K3, it has 2 gigs for music and photos. It's very slim, has no buttons just a touch screen and it looks and sounds fantastic. I bought mine for $99 here in Canada so if your in the States it might be even cheaper(we tend to have higher prices here). As far as music is concerned I really love listening to Frank Marino, but it's not for everybody.

Once a file has been compressed through a lossy codec like MP3, you cannot get the removed data back. Think of it like cutting some excess bits off something to try and fit it into a box (lol) -- you can't put the bits back perfectly on like it was originally. Changing it back to WAV is just putting your poor cut up object into a bigger box. The sound data was cut, it's not coming back. OK that might not be the best metaphor but I hope it's clear anyway.

from what i hear flacc (sp?) is the best way to go.
You can download a program called Wavepad. You can convert mp3's to wav's or you can tweak your mp3 file, it's a great program and it's free.
My guess, (based on photo files) is no. Once they're compressed, the quality has been compromised, uncompressing it will not bring it back. As far as quality, I've never noticed a difference between MP3 and Wav.
no .you cannot get more quality than what is in the file already. The only way is to start from cd quality and re-rip the song into the highest quality setting. 320kbps (160kbps per channel) this will take more space on your computer and subsequently your ipod.

If quality is the issue why not buy a jukebox system for your original cd's basically a 100 + disc changer on your system to keep them hidden but accessible to your system.

Personally i just play my 190 kbps files from the computer into my stereo and i'm satisfied with the quality. if you are a diehard audiophile You will not be. but if you can afford to be one of those you can pay the price of a multichanger

I do not have amotorola phone. But i have to imagine that if you are trying to download mp3's to your phone you would be doing it through a USB cord. When I first got my phone (Samsung a900) i had to install the drivers from the samsung website. Afterward I connected the usb cord and then went to a option in the setting menu that said 'connect to PC'. The files I downloaded are of a normal bitrate and actual mp3 files, not m3u or and other variation. Check and see if the files you are uploading to the phone are of a bitrate higher than 128kbps. If so perhaps your phone cannot process that much data.

they are probably not mp3 files. You can check them on your pc by checking the file format in the properties menu (right-click on the song %26amp; go to properties or file info). It is probably a WMA file.

R u burning those files onto CD-R or CD-RW? Some players r not able 2 play mp3 files from CD-RW. Try burning again onto 1 of these CDs. If 2 no avail, convert them into .cda. U can use Nero 7 Ultra Edition 2 convert them.

There are a few ways you can go about doing this . . .

1. If you have a lap top, you should be able to run a USB cable from it to your stereo and transfer files that way. If you do so, you computer may just recognize your stereo as another hard drive and you may be able to drag and drop files into your system.

2. If you stereo has a USB port, I'm guessing that it has an auxiliary input as well (this would look like a headphone jack except you put sound through it rather that it producing sound) In that case, you could buy one of those cables with a headphone plug on both ends. One end would go into your Mp3 player, and the other would go onto the auxiliary port on your stereo.

3. If you have a tape player in your car, you can buy a cassette adapter. It would run the audio from your mp3 player through the tape player and you would listen to it like a cassette.

4. If you can get you hands on an FM transmitter, those are interesting as well. powered by by your cigarette lighter, you plug the jack into you mp3 player and the device transmits a signal that you cam pick up on your car radio. A small downside they may have is that there can be interference from radio stations some times and you would have to switch frequencies.

I have done pretty much all of these things, and I must say that besides already having the music on your stereo, option #2 would give you the best results.

This way may be a bit time consuming but it works because I've done it. Burn the songs you want to convert to MP3 (through iTunes) to a CD. Then use a program like dbPowerAmp (google it), which can rip them from your CD into MP3 on your computer.

The general rule I have made for myself is:

if I put "feat." in the song title field I will put it in "()" but if it is in the artist field I will put no "()".

Actually usually movies are from 1-2 GB depending on the length. And it isn't just video clips! It is full movies. I don't really suggest putting full length movies on a 4GB iPod or maybe 8GB depending (depending on how much music you like) because you wont have much room for music! But yes iPods (and MP4's) hold full length movies. For the iPod Nano (newest one) put video clips on it so it wont hog up your music space. For a 30-180GB iPod Video use as much as you want!
yes they play full length movies. movies are usually from 500 mb - to multiple GBs. ive watch video on my two ipods that played video, the 5G iPod and iPod touch. if your going to get an iPod with low space (8 GB) you'll want to watch the movies then delete them to keep space free.

The RCA LYRA brand is not a Plays for Sure device meaning you can not manage playlists on it. Basically you have a mini hard drive.

1. Plug the LYRA into your computer with a USB cable. It will show up as a drive (if you have an SD card in it that will show up as a seperate drive). Now simply drag your files over to the drive using copy/paste or drag and drop. Files can be in mp3 or wma format.

2. Use any music media software such as Windows Media Player or Winamp or Songbird etc...if you are running windows you'll have Windows Media Player on your machine. You can use WMP to manage your music on the computer and when you want to move some to your player you again just plug your LYRA into the computer and your software will see that there is a new 'drive'...just move the music over by drag and drop

BTW you can't have more than 128 files on the root directory with this tech. Move your songs within a folder!

So...first thing to test is when you plug in the LYRA is the system recognizing it as a drive? (make sure your batteries are fresh)

If you've used one or more, which 30 gig video and mp3 player do you like better? I'm mainly trying to choose between Ipod and Zune.

go for the ipod.. it'll play mp3s which are the most common form of downloadable music (unlike zune which only plays "zunes" and you'll lose quality converting mp3s to "zune")

first thing you need to do is put in the disc and install the software its easy because it is a step by step process where you do nothing.

That's a common problem with ripping CD's to MP3 players, heck even I suffer from it.

Sadly there isn't really much you can do, the CD has protection on it which is automatically transferred to the MP3 player with the music files. When you play it just won't allow you to play it because it's protected.

There is NOTHING you can do.

you could just buy a MP3 player and never have to rip it too a CD. it bothers the hell out of me too
try a different CD ripper, and change the bit rate of your mp3s you are ripping.some mp3 players wont play certian quality of mp3. so check the bit rate of the ones you download.

I had that exact same mp3 player, except it was 512 mb. This is a really good deal, but beware of the cheaper creative products. Mine lasted only five months, until it just stoped playing the songs. I would not buy this mp3 player, it is probably best to just pay for s better one, example: iPod, Other Creative Products, SanDisk Sansa 4gb.

WMA is very easy to get, the software that comes with the creative mp3 player can put songs right into WMA format, you just have to change a couple of setings.

Overall, just spring for a more expensive model.

Look at it this way...the mp3 player is like a floppy disk/usb drive....you drag your files to it and the music is copied into it and then u can listen to it. If you do not have music in ur computer then download it from a trusted website (yahoo has music for sell) or put a music cd into your computer and have your computers music program (Windows media player) copy it and then proceed with the above steps...

When you are done, right click on that green arrow and "stop" the device and hit okay to get the message saying "its okay to remove your device" then it is okay to unplug it. Unplugging it without doing this usually does nothing, but it can permanently mess up your mp3 player.

I have a Toshiba Gigabeat 60G, and I love it. It is Windows based and uses Windows Media Player to sync music, video and photos to the device. I've used an iPod and I honestly perfer the Gigabeat. You should check it out.

But if just want to listen to songs on cell phone i'll suggest using a software like soundforge to decrease the bit rate(in order to reduce file size) of the mp3s you have on your computer and enjoy!

S My mp3 wont work anymore?

i have a Sansa e250 mp3 player, and it has worked without problems since i got it. latley i wont reconize the songs i have downloaded on it and wont play them. every time i try to play a song it says " syncronize to continue your music subscription" i know this means i have to re-sync it, but i got some songs off of my friend's limewire. i do not want to re-sync 50 songs. it also only does this with certian songs. other ones ive gotten off limewire work, but only a few. why is this? does this mean i have to re-sync all the songs that do this? or is there an easier way?

im so confused i just want my songs back.
